European Volleyball Gala coming up soon in the eternal city!
2016 European Volleyball Gala

Luxembourg, June 7, 2016. Europe’s Volleyball family can start looking forward to yet another milestone – on Thursday, June 9 the annual European Volleyball Gala will be taking place in Rome as the ‘eternal city’ hosts what is designed to be a real celebration of the sport and of its stars. The 2016 European Volleyball Gala will take place at Salone delle Fontane, an iconic location where some 200 guests will come together to enjoy a number of show acts and also the much anticipated Drawing of Lots that will kick start the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League. The Gala will be streamed live and for free by starting at 8:05pm CET. A live picture gallery will be available here.

The profile of Volleyball and of its stars will be taken to the next level on Thursday night when the highest-ranking Volleyball officials and a number of distinguished guests will gather in Rome and witness a show designed to showcase what Volleyball is all about and what the sport stands out for.

The event can be called a historic one for a number of reasons. It coincides with a historic moment for Europe’s elite club competition – the format of the CEV Volleyball Champions League has been revised and re-styled thereby providing more countries and more teams with the opportunity to compete and to perform at the highest level.

As many as 66 teams – 36 men’s and 30 women’s – are set to participate in the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League, representing as many as 29 countries. These figures are something truly unprecedented and for the first time the vibe that goes with the CEV Volleyball Champions League will be taken to a number of countries whose national champions will be making their debut in the competition.

However, the European Volleyball Gala is not just about that. A number of major stars will be honoured for their achievements and as a result will turn into ‘role models’ that the next generation of Volleyball players – our ‘stars in the making’ – are able look up to.

Show acts are also included in the programme to deliver a night that those in attendance – as well as those that will be following the live streaming – will never forget!

CEV President Aleksandar Boričić and his colleagues will stay on for the remainder of the weekend as the agenda of Europe’s Volleyball family also includes this year’s second plenary meetings of the CEV Executive Committee and Board of Administration which are due to follow on Friday and Saturday. A number of strategic items will be discussed in order to continue with the reshaping and restyling of the European Volleyball family that Mr Boričić has now been leading for about eight months, with a focus on a closer cooperation with all National Federations and stakeholders.
