Alberto Salomoni takes over reins of Hungary women’s national team
News from the National Federations

Budapest, Hungary, March 2, 2017. Before the Board of Administration of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation convened on Thursday, Alberto Salomoni was officially appointed as the head coach of the Hungarian women’s national Volleyball team.

The 50-year-old Italian expert previously worked for the German women’s national team, as well as in the Italian and the German leagues and currently is the head coach of MTK BUDAPEST. Salomoni would like to continue the work of his predecessor, Belgian-born Jan De Brandt. “I would like to use my experience and knowledge to help the Hungarian national team to further develop and improve. The previous head coach, Jan De Brandt did an outstanding job with the team, which has showed its power to the whole of Europe. There is no need for major changes. We have to continue the work that paid off and brought much success to the team. The most crucial matter is to move forward, step by step,” Salomoni said.

The Hungarian Volleyball Federation’s Board of Administration showed their full support to the Italian expert. “We were looking for someone who is familiar with the Hungarian championship, the Hungarian players, and able to bring sufficient experience and innovation, to the very challenging and intense year that lies ahead of our women’s national team. Of course we would like to continue the two-year success story of the team’s latest achievements,” said Dr Ferenc Kovács, President of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation.

Alberto Salomoni’s contract is lasting until the end of the current national team season; however both parties confirmed that they are planning to work together for a longer term.

The Hungarian women’s national Volleyball team has a very busy and exciting year ahead in 2017. At the end of May they will participate in the World Championship qualifiers in Croatia, after that they will make their historic debut in the FIVB World Grand Prix in July, before they take part in the European Championship in September in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
