CEV Satellite Laholm just a few days away
2017 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Laholm

Laholm, Sweden, July 4, 2017. The second CEV Satellite tournament of the 2017 season is just a few days away and once again, elite Beach Volleyball players will head to Sweden. The event will take place at Mellbystrand, Laholm, i.e. Sweden's longest sandy beach. Among the teams who will compete in the Main Draw, there are as many as three Swedish pairs.

The small and picturesque town of Laholm is soon to be ‘invaded’ by some of Europe’s most talented and competitive female Beach Volleyball players who will fight for the top honours.

The organisers, Play 4 Life and the Swedish Volleyball Federation, are getting ready to host the very first CEV Satellite tournament for women, which has ever taken place on Swedish soil. The historic event will take place from July 6 to 9 at Sweden's longest sandy beach, Mellbystrand.

“We are happy and honoured with the opportunity to organise an event of this magnitude. Thanks to the commune of Laholm and the huge efforts from Play 4 Life and former elite Beach Volleyball player Karin Lundqvist, we are able to play host to this event. We will take care of all of our guests - players, fans and officials - in the best possible way,” says Saffet Eraybar, President of the Swedish Volleyball Federation.

The tournament starts Thursday with the qualification round as a total of 16 teams fight for the eight remaining spots available in the Main Draw.

Among the eight teams currently featured in the Main draw, there are as many as three Swedish pairs: Tadva Yoken/Sigrid Simonsson (pictured), Tora Hansson/Sofia Ögren and the Thurin twins, Susanna and Kristina. Even though Yoken/Simonsson is a quite newly formed team, they already rank as the top tandem in Sweden. Simonsson won the national championship last year together with Anne-Lie Rininsland, whilst Yoken and her former partner, Camilla Nilsson are the reigning champions of the Swedish Beach Tour.

“We are poised and psyched up for this week. To play such a big international tournament on home soil is for sure a special thing. History will be made - and we will be a part of it. That is something that we are very proud of and as a result, we will try to bring our A game,” Tadva Yoken said.
