Successful kick-off for DELA #EuroBeachVolley 2018 in four Dutch host cities
2018 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship

Utrecht, the Netherlands, February 9, 2018. On Thursday and Friday, the official kick-off for the 2018 DELA CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship took place in the Netherlands. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić visited the four host cities The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Apeldoorn, where he met with the respective sports councillors and tournament ambassadors Reinder Nummerdor, Rebekka Kadijk, Richard Schuil and Robert Horstink.

Once again a major title tournament in the Netherlands

In 2015 many Dutch and international Beach Volleyball fans enjoyed the Beach Volleyball World Championships held in the Netherlands. Sold-out stadiums were the trademark of the event while millions of people watched the live broadcasts on television, especially during the thrilling men’s final between teams from the Netherlands and Brazil.
The success of the 2015 World Championships was contagious, and three years later, the Dutch Volleyball Federation and partner TIG Sports are organising a major title tournament once again.

DELA #EuroBeachVolley part of multi event

The DELA Beach Volleyball European Championship is part of a nationwide Volleyball event in the Netherlands, which combines all three Olympic disciplines: the DELA Beach Volleyball European Championship, the Sitting Volleyball World Championships and the U20 Volleyball European Championship – Men. All these three tournaments are taking place at the same time in unique locations throughout the country and will be coming together at one central location for the finals: Sportcampus Zuiderpark in The Hague.

CEV President Aleksandar Boričić impressed by locations

“By hosting this year’s European Championship across as many as four cities, the Netherlands continue their success story from the 2015 World Championship. The CEV is especially pleased that the most important continental event in Beach Volleyball will benefit from such a unique stage and that our sport will be taken to such a large audience in the cities of The Hague, Rotterdam, Apeldoorn and Utrecht,” the CEV President said after completing his visit.

“The 2015 World Championship was a tremendous success and this year’s #EuroBeachVolley will be the continuation of that trend. I would like to thank the Dutch Volleyball Federation, the local promoter and the respective city authorities for their hard work and support. By working together as a team, the European Volleyball Confederation, the Dutch Federation and the local organisers will be able to bring Beach Volleyball closer to as many people as possible and to inspire the younger generations in attendance,” he continued.

Golden history for the Netherlands at Beach Volleyball European Championships

The Beach Volleyball European Championships are taking place annually since the mid-nineties. The Netherlands have won four gold medals in the men’s tournament (Marko Klok and Michiel van der Kuip in 1995 and Reinder Nummerdor/Richard Schuil from 2008-2010) and two gold medals in the women’s competition (with Sanne Keizer and Marleen van Iersel in 2012 and Madelein Meppelink and Marleen van Iersel in 2014).

This is how the #EuroBeachVolley venue at Neude square in Utrecht will look like this coming July!
