2018 CEV Volleyball European League - Men & Women

Budapest, Hungary, May 16, 2018. The start of the 2018 CEV Volleyball European League group matches is just around the corner. The Hungarian women’s national Volleyball team will play France on home soil this weekend in the Golden group, while the men’s team travels to Split to start its campaign against Croatia in the Silver League. The Hungarian Volleyball Federation held the opening press conference for this prestigious competition in Budapest on Wednesday.

An overcrowded press room with smiling faces and high expectations. Hungarian players, head coaches and fans are ready for the kick-off as the European League group phase gets underway this weekend.

The Secretary General of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation, Zsolt Ludvig told journalists that he is hopeful the men’s team is capable of following the path of the ladies, as the squad coached by Jan De Brandt is one of the most successful and popular national teams in Hungary.

Captain Zsuzsanna Tálas added that everyone is delighted to get together after a long and tiring season to have new inspirations and fight for the national colours. The player of the Polish side Trefl Proxima KRAKOW stressed that a few young and talented new members of the squad are welcome and they will have all the support from the more experienced players.

Jan De Brandt expressed his satisfaction regarding the unusual long time they have had for the preparation. The Belgian coach reckoned one month should be enough to improve strategically and mentally. His aim is to win all six group matches and then he wants to see his team arriving in top shape for the Budapest Final Four event in mid-June.

The Hungarian men’s national Volleyball head coach Bogdan Tanase underlined that he has just started working with his team packed with a couple of young players. The Romanian trainer is convinced that playing important and exciting matches in the Silver group of the European League could be encouraging for his young squad whose primary goal is to perform in line with the expectations in the European Championship qualifiers coming up later this summer and autumn.

Player József Nagy promised that the whole team would go full steam ahead to impress the Hungarian crowd.
