Champions League draw – Who plays who?
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men & Women

Luxembourg, June 29, 2018. Volleyball fans from across the world can start looking forward to the 2019 edition of the elite CEV Volleyball Champions League following the Drawing of Lots for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Round held earlier this morning at the home of European Volleyball in Luxembourg. The competition will start on October 9 with the home matches slated for the first round and continue for a few weeks to determine the two teams per gender that will eventually qualify for the pool stage. The Drawing of Lots for the 4th Round will be taking place on November 2, 2018.

The men’s competition features as many as 34 teams, with 18 seeded to the 4th Round already, meaning 16 sides will contest the first round, with the eight winners progressing to the second before it comes down to four teams fighting for the two remaining spots available in the pool stage.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Round fixtures look as follows:

The women’s competition features 27 teams, thus only two teams – the reigning national champions of the Netherlands and Austria, SLIEDRECHT Sport and UVC Holding GRAZ – will contest the 1st Round. Another seven teams will start their journey in the 2nd Round and possibly continue in the 3rd Round as follows:

The winners of the 3rd Round will join the 18 teams already seeded to the 4th Round.

The 2019 edition of Europe’s premier Volleyball competition follows a different format compared to the 2017 and 2018 seasons in an effort made by the CEV leadership to fulfil the expectations of all stakeholders and especially of the participating teams and their National Federations. It remains open to all 56 national champions – and in 2019 teams from Norway and Hungary, i.e. Viking TIF BERGEN and VRCK KAZINCBARCIKA, will make their historic debut in the men’s competition.

The eventual winners will emerge from a ‘grand finale’, i.e. a single match scheduled for May 18 and 19 for women and men respectively at a venue TBC.
