CEV and FIVB commit to working together to further grow Snow Volleyball
News from the CEV

Vienna, Austria, August 3, 2018. As the Austrian capital is currently playing host to a Beach Volleyball Major, CEV President Aleksandar Boričić, FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo, CEV Senior Vice President Renato Arena as well as the members of the newly established CEV Snow Volleyball Group of Experts chaired by Mr Peter Kleinmann convened in Vienna for a high-profile meeting.

The CEV and FIVB agreed to work closely together in order to develop Snow Volleyball even further after the two organisations joined forces for the delivery of the exhibition match held in conjunction with the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics as well as of the first-ever European Championships contested at the ‘birthplace’ of Snow Volleyball, the Austrian ski resort of Wagrain-Kleinarl.

The leaders of the respective organisations share the same vision and view on Snow Volleyball, which opens up a wide array of opportunities to promote Volleyball by taking it to some truly iconic locations and to an audience that may not have had a taste of the game this far. The CEV and FIVB have matured this experience for the last three years, i.e. since the introduction of a European Tour back in 2016, but especially with the historic Snow Volleyball Night held at PyeongChang 2018 as well as with the incredibly successful #EuroSnowVolley organised in Austria in March of this year.

It is the wish of the FIVB and CEV to work hand in hand in order to make Snow Volleyball a marketable product and to support all National Federations in their efforts to develop this ‘variation’ of the game, while providing a consistent framework and structure that will lead to its ultimate long-term and sustainable growth. To this extent, as the two organisations share the same ambition to innovate and provide fans with a truly unique experience, Snow Volleyball will undergo a defining change with all future competitions due to feature three players on each side of the net. This will help make Snow Volleyball even more recognisable and strengthen its specific identity and features.

Volleyball is a sport for all - and Snow Volleyball is no exception to the rule as shown by the many kids that tried the game shortly before the start of the first ever European Championship in Wagrain-Kleinarl (AUT)

The CEV President used this opportunity to thank Mr Kleinmann, the Austrian Volleyball Federation and their President Gernot Leitner as well as promoter Chaka2 for the pioneering role they have been playing in the development of Snow Volleyball and their pivotal role in the delivery of both the exhibition match at PyeongChang 2018 and of this year’s historic European Championships as well. Europe’s Volleyball family very much hopes that more National Federations will follow Austria’s example and work hard for the further growth of Snow Volleyball after as many as 17 countries hosted a national championship back this winter.
