New EuroVolley brand launched in Budapest
2019 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Men & Women

Budapest, Hungary, November 1, 2018. The new EuroVolley brand was unveiled at the iconic Várkert Bazár of the Hungarian capital in an event attended by the eight co-hosts of the 2019 #EuroVolleyM and #EuroVolleyW and many guests of honour marking a new page in the history of Europe’s flagship competition for national teams and the CEV as well.

The new EuroVolley brand is a part of a much bigger rebranding process for the whole of European Volleyball, including the institution of the CEV which is due to unfold in the next couple of months. The new identity is set to be a bold, modern symbol of courage, leadership and ambition, while the pattern design is contained within the circular shape representing the ball and is inspired by the idea of all 56 countries coming together through Volleyball.

CEV President Aleksandar Boričić addressing members of the European Volleyball family in Budapest

“We are pleased to have eight fantastic organisers for EuroVolley 2019,” CEV President Aleksandar Boričić said. “One of the host cities next year will be Budapest, which is really becoming a Volleyball capital within Europe. At CEV we recognised it was time for a change and we now have Alphabet as a partner who are bringing new ideas, including the EuroVolley logo, new energy to European Volleyball.”

“We are a design and brand agency who specialises in working with millennials. I am excited to take you through the new brand today. A lot has changed recently and digital and social is driving this change. Trends are changing and sports have to adapt,” said Mike Robinson, Strategy Director at Alphabet.

“A brand is a lot more than just a logo and we felt it was time to move things forward. Pushing ourselves to be more progressive. EuroVolley is key to CEV and with the rollout we needed a brand that could adapt for each event. Therefore, using the flag and colour concept, we created the mother brand and then a specific version for each event next year. It is bold and brace and is about engaging new people and growing the Volleyball community,” Robinson continued.

The EuroVolley Core Brand was introduced in Budapest together with the specific declinations for the final round of the European Championship set for next year, using the colours of the eight nations that are hosting the eagerly awaited competitions. Using this concept, the EuroVolley brand will have the same design over the years, yet still be very specific for the organisers of each edition.

EuroVolley 2019 – Men organisers France, Slovenia, Belgium and the Netherlands have picked blue, green, red and orange accordingly to symbolise their respective national colours. Meanwhile the #EuroVolleyW organisers Turkey and Poland have gone with their own shades of red, Hungary will be represented with green, and Slovakia went with blue as their symbol in the crest of the EuroVolley 2019 - Women logo.

The event held in Budapest – attended by the highest CEV authorities and a number of legendary players from the host countries – also marks the unity of the two tournaments.  These are Victoria Ravva (FRA), Tomislav Smuc (SLO), Frank Depestele (BEL) and Joop Alberda (NED) on the men’s side; Neslihan Demir Güler (TUR), Dorota Swieniewicz (POL), Zsuzsanna Talas (HUN) and Adriana Marcekova (SVK) for the four hosts of the women’s EuroVolley.

The inevitable nearing of such terrific Volleyball party will spark a real Volleyball fever all over Europe and beyond at the end of Summer 2019 – with the Women’s competition setting tone August 23 – September 8 (TBC) and the men taking over the attention of the European Volleyball family September 12 – 29.
