#EuroBeachVolley sports event of the year in Moscow!
2019 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship

Moscow, Russia, November 12, 2018. As announced earlier this summer, Moscow will become the capital of European Beach Volleyball when hosting the 2019 #EuroBeachVolley from August 5 to 11 at a purpose-built venue on the banks of the Moskva River, on the territory of the Luzhniki sports complex.

Luzhniki is one of the largest sports complexes in Russia and in the world. The territory of the sports complex covers more than 150 hectares. Since its opening back in 1956, the Luzhniki has become the main venue for many sports competitions in Russia, as well as a recreational area for thousands of Muscovites and visitors of the Russian capital.

With a history spanning 60 years, the Luzhniki has become the venue for some of the world’s largest sporting and cultural events: the 1980 Olympic Games, the World Festival of Youth and Students, the 2013 World Athletics Championships, and the 2018 World Cup. The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and many other stars have delivered concerts at Luzhniki. In total, more than 100,000 different events have taken place in Luzhniki, attended by more than 360 million people.
More than 60 world records were set here and over 50,000 goals scored in official football and hockey matches.

Back in 2005, Moscow, and namely the Luzhniki sports complex, had already successfully hosted the European Beach Volleyball Championship. In 2009, Sochi, the Olympic capital of Russia, hosted this very same event as well.

Ten years later, in 2019, Europe’s Beach Volleyball elite will convene in Russia to prove their skills at the European Championship. 32 men’s and 32 women’s teams will compete for the crown claimed in 2018 by Norway’s sensation Anders Berntsen Mol/Christian Sandlie Sørum and Madelein Meppelink/Sanne Keizer of the Netherlands.

Sergey Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow: “Moscow has become the capital of international sports this decade, successfully organising the most important events. The 2019 CEV European Beach Volleyball Championship will continue this tradition. This tournament will be organised on the highest level and will be the most important sporting event of 2019 with great support from the local fans. Welcome to Moscow – the city of sport and hospitality!”

Stanislav Shevchenko, President of the Russian Volleyball Federation: “I am proud to say that Russia will host the 2019 Beach Volleyball European Championship. It is a great opportunity for Russian sports to organise this event. Beach Volleyball is developing very fast in Russia and raising the interest of spectators and fans alike. I want to express our gratitude to the European Volleyball Confederation for their trust. We, as organisers, have great experience in holding international tournaments in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. I am confident that the tournament will be held at a very high level with tremendous support from the audience.”
