VakifBank and Eczacibasi VitrA claim tickets to Club World Championship semis
2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship

Shaoxing, China, December 5, 2018. The two Istanbul based teams – VakifBank and Eczacibasi VitrA are continuing to collect fast wins at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, proving their favourite status in the tournament and securing the top spot in their respective pools.

In their second match of the tournament the French Volero LE CANNET threw a challenge at the reigning champions VakifBank ISTANBUL. Zhu Ting managed to shine bright on home soil as she added 23 points to the bucket of VakifBank’s winning efforts as the Turkish side recorded a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) win.

Volero LE CANNET captain Laura Unternährer: “When you play against such good teams, you just need to enjoy and do your best. It’s incredible to be able to play against them. We are really grateful. We know we can do better.”

For Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL it was Tijana Boskovic, who topped the charts once again, as the MVP of the 2018 FIVB World Championship recorded successful attacks, blocks and aces against Thailand’s Supreme Chonburi with her team claiming a fast victory 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-17).

Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL captain Jordan Larson: “We had a strong performance. We came out and had a game plan and we executed well. They (Supreme Chonburi) are a good team. It’s fun to play against them because you’ll never know what combination they are going to run and they play great defence.”

On Thursday, December 6 all teams will have a well deserved rest. When pool play resumes on Friday, VakifBank will take on Minas Tenis Clube of Brazil to decide first place in Pool A and Brazilian Praia Clube and Eczacibasi VitrA will play for top spot in Pool B.
