Follow Your Star - György Grozer
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Luxembourg, December 11, 2018. With the 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League ready to resume next week with the second leg of pool play, let us look back on the first matches of teams, more specifically on the top performance of György Grozer – the key player of Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG, who collected no less than 27 points, putting him on the top of the scorer list of this stage of the competition, with the Russian side claiming a 3-2 victory against CHAUMONT VB 52 HM of France.

The 34-year old opposite joined Zenit this season after playing for both Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK and Belogorie BELGOROD last year, so he is no stranger to the Russian fans, having helped BELGOROD claim the Champions League title in 2014 and obviously aiming to repeat this success with Saint Petersburg.

Grozer, despite being Hungarian-born, is also representing the colours of the German National team, the silver medallists of the 2017 European Championship. György was the absolute top scorer of the Final round in Poland with 117 points in five matches and received the individual award as the best opposite.

He moved to Germany early in his life, following his father, György Grozer senior, who was also a top-class Volleyball player and eventually a coach of MOERSER SC – a team Grozer junior played for six years, also under the wing of his father.

At the beginning of next week Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG will travel to Slovenia, where they will play ACH Volley LJUBLJANA on December 18 for their next Champions League match. There is no doubt that Grozer, also known as 'Hurricane' among Russian fans for his amazing power, will be one to watch there as well.
