Ferhat Akbas steps down from coaching Team Japan
Miscellaneous

Luxembourg, January 9, 2019. Ferhat Akbas has stepped down from his position as assistant coach of the Japanese national team. The Turkish-born Akbas made the announcement today through social media.

“Because of the very busy calendar with the national team and commitments towards my club, I had to make a very hard decision. The choice was between “working both for a club and a national team at the same time” or “staying always in Japan until the end of the Olympic Games”, which means staying Japan for the next 16 months,” Akbas wrote.

“Even if I gave everything for the success of Team Japan for the last two years, for my future, for my professional career, for my life I couldn’t choose to stay in Japan only for #TeamJapan and the Olympic Games,” he continued.

“After achieving very good results and having a good time for the last two years, I would like to say goodbye to all Japanese Volleyball fans, players, to the Japan Volleyball Association, and to all of my friends in Japan. I will never forget the great memories. It was an honour for me to carry the Japanese flag on my chest. One day, I will be back! Hope to see you all,” he concluded.

Akbas is currently coaching Romania’s champions C.S.M. BUCURESTI who are making this season their maiden appearance in the elite CEV Volleyball Champions League.
