Slovenia win MEVZA qualifier to secure spot in #EuroVolleyU16W
2017 CEV U16 Volleyball European Championship - Women

Púchov, Slovakia, January 13, 2019. Slovenia claimed on Sunday the final match of the MEVZA #EuroVolleyU16W qualifier held in Púchov against hosts Slovakia. They edged their opponents in four sets to book their ticket to the Final Round of the competition due to take place later this summer in Italy and Croatia. Runners-up Slovakia, third-placed Czech Republic, Hungary (4th), Austria (6th) and Cyprus (7th) will continue their journey in the second round of qualifications scheduled for April. Croatia finished the competition in fifth place but they are qualified for the Finals already as one of the two hosting countries.

The Slovenian girls won all of the five matches they contested in Púchov. The team mentored by Živa Cof beat Croatia, Israel and Czech Republic in Pool B, Hungary in the semis and Slovakia in the gold medal match.

“We are very happy for the qualification. It was our goal here in Slovakia, because we knew that we have a good team. Everything has to go all right and it went the right way in this tournament. Everything was perfect, we liked the organisation and the tournament was a great experience. To win such a competition, you need a little bit of luck and we had it. We had two extremely difficult games against Czech Republic in the pool and against Slovakia in the final. It was a great experience for us and we are looking forward to the Final Round,” said Cof.
