Superstar Earvin Ngapeth releases first rap album

Luxembourg, January 18, 2019. Volleyball superstar Earvin Ngapeth is much more than ‘just’ a standout player. Ngapeth just released his first rap album ‘Manière’ including seven tracks. The album has been available for download since Thursday morning, only a few hours after Ngapeth celebrated a third victory in the pool stage of the CEV Champions League with Zenit KAZAN. The album is rather an EP, an extended play, a short album of seven tracks mixing rap, club sounds and African rhythms.

Volleyball fans know Earvin’s interest for music very well but this venture off the Volleyball court is somehow unique. “I am curious how this is going to turn out and how people will receive it,” Ngapeth said to Le Parisien. “I have been longing for this for a long time, and everyone knows how much music means to me and how important it is in my life.”

Asked whether he is transforming into a rapper who plays Volleyball, Ngapeth was clear about his plans: “Music is a passion and I think that all athletes need to do something else to take a breath from their routine. I song write all the time and as soon as I have a free moment, I go to the studio to record,” Ngapeth said. “I have no plans to stop playing and once I retire, I will be too old for rap music. However, I may just go to the studio and help younger people produce their own music.”

The first step of this project and album came in 2018 when Ngapeth went to Barcelona with friends, where they recorded the video clip for Manière. “I had some 20 tracks from my time in Modena and through another rapper I met someone with a big studio in Paris and last summer I re-recorded the seven tracks I like the most.”

The tracks reflect where Earvin stands at this point in his life and career. “I am a player of the French national team and as a result, the goal is definitely not to create any controversy. I just want to share my own fun,” Ngapeth explains. “I still write lots of songs in Russia because there is not much else I can do there when I do not play Volleyball.” There is more to come from the rapper Ngapeth… For now, just check iTunes or Spotify to download and listen to his debut album!
