CEV President hosts Japan’s Ambassador to Serbia on the road to Tokyo 2020
News from the CEV

Belgrade, Serbia, February 4, 2019. H. E. Mr Junichi Maruyama, the Ambassador of Japan to Serbia and non-resident to Montenegro, paid a visit to the CEV President’s Office in Belgrade as testament to the friendly relations between Europe’s Volleyball family and Japan.

It was an opportunity for CEV President Aleksandar Boričić to hold talks with Mr Maruyama on the many major Volleyball events held in Japan and on the ever-growing popularity of the sport in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The two reviewed the highly-successful 2018 edition of the FIVB Women’s World Championship held in Japan last autumn, which reached its climax with an all-European gold medal match between eventual winners Serbia and Italy.

The CEV President and Mr Maruyama looked ahead as well, with Japan set to host the FIVB World Cup later this year and especially towards the 2020 Olympics, when Volleyball will be returning ‘home’ after Tokyo hosted the very first Olympic Volleyball competition back in 1964.
