Iconic Ankara Sports Hall to host CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women

Luxembourg, March 5, 2019. Following a high-profile meeting between the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Mehmet Akif Üstündag, there are great news for the CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women. The iconic Ankara Sports Hall, which has a capacity of 9,943 seats, will be hosting the continental Volleyball showpiece, thus replacing the venue previously announced, i.e. Baskent Volleyball Hall.

The Ankara Sports Hall  is an indoor, state-of-the-art sporting arena in the Turkish capital. The venue officially opened in April 2010 and has hosted international Volleyball events already – such as the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship in 2011 and the FIVB Women’s U23 World Championship in 2015.

After the meeting with the head of state, TVF President Üstündag provided further details. “We met the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who loves and supports sport. He asked us to host the CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women matches in Ankara Sports Hall  in order to provide more support from the fans. I would like to thank Mr President Erdogan for his continuous support to Volleyball. I believe the spectators in Ankara will watch spine tingling and world-class matches at the CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women. We are waiting for many local and international sports fans to come to Ankara to witness this Volleyball festival.”

Turkey are co-hosting the event together with Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. It is the first time in history that four countries play host to the final stage of EuroVolley. Moreover, the tournament will feature, for the first time ever, as many as 24 teams. The Ankara Sports Hall will host the matches of Pool A featuring Turkey, Serbia, Bulgaria, France, Finland and Greece, two of the 8th Final matches, two quarterfinals as well as all of the semi-final and medal matches.
