News from the National Federations

Lipetsk, Russia, March 13, 2019. The 2019 edition of the Russian Open Snow Volleyball Cup took place in Lipetsk with participation of as many as 12 men’s and 8 women’s teams, thus accounting for a total of 80 players from various regions across the Russian Federation. They fought for two days for the top honours at the venue set up right next to Zvyozdny sports hall with two teams from Moscow eventually coming out on top.

With the number of entries increased from 16 to 20 since last year, Andrey Bolgov/Ruslan Daianov/Aleksandr Kramarenko were the eventual winners of the men’s competition. Olga Motrich, Ksenia Sukhoverkova, Alina Salmanova and Olga Kozhadey, representing the VC Vodny Stadium Dinamo, claimed top honours from the women’s tournament.

The competition in Lipetsk featured some very accomplished Snow Volleyball players, such as reigning European champion Ruslan Daianov and Aleksandr Kramarenko, winner of this year’s European Tour stop in Erciyes, Turkey.
Two more top teams contested the men’s tournament, namely Yury Bogatov/Pavel Rakusov/Nikita Kuzmin/Petr Bakhnar and Vsevolod Bobrikov/Vladislav Mikhalev/Vadim Smorchkov. Elizaveta Terenteva, a multiple medallist from this year’s European Tour, competed in Lipetsk as well.

The event in Lipetsk was especially important since ranking points were at stake – and these point count towards qualification for next year’s European Championships.

The home team from Lipetsk, Gerasimov/Kurgan/Panarin/Yakushev, aka the ‘Four Fat Men’, finished in fourth place.

The Open Snow Volleyball Cup took place for the first time in 2018 in Lipetsk. This year, the event ran in conjunction with Maslenitsa and the supporters of a healthy lifestyle celebrated the traditional Slavic holiday in a special way. The sports and students club Zeus of the Lipetsk State Technical University organised a sports festival on this occasion. There was a car exhibition as well, with players and fans able to try the new Mitsubishi L200 and a wide range of other cars too.
