New Russia coach Sammelvuo shares plans for 2019 season
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men
Moscow, Russia, April 16, 2019. Tuomas Sammelvuo will be at the helm of the Russian men’s national team for the first time this year – and one of the major highlights of an extremely busy season will be the historic CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men. “The main goal is to be well ready for it,” Sammelvuo said.
“The EuroVolley has undergone many changes, with 24 participating teams, a lot more matches to play than at previous editions and we will have to take this into consideration when preparing for it,” Sammelvuo added. “We will need much energy, strength and endurance as we move from one stage of the tournament to the next one.”
Russia are the reigning European champions after taking the title in 2017. “Our camp will begin on May 13,” Sammelvuo revealed. “We will first play the FIVB Volleyball Nations League and in early August we will play an Olympic qualifying tournament for Tokyo 2020. This is the most important event for us this season; there is no doubt about it. After the Olympic qualification, we will have a short break in order to recover both physically and mentally. After that, we will reconvene again with the right energy and start preparing for EuroVolley. We have to be as ready as possible and only if we do so, we can go for a good result. It will be a long journey but I hope we will achieve the desired result.”
