Estonia’s Nõlvak and Tiisaar look forward to #EuroBeachVolley premiere
CEV EuroBeachVolley 2019

Tallinn, Estonia, July 12, 2019. Kusti Nõlvak and Mart Tiisaar decided to switch to Beach Volleyball in 2015, creating quite a shock inside the Estonian Volleyball family. At the time, both had good and promising indoor careers – Nõlvak was one of the most highly regarded setters in Estonia, while Tiisaar had just finished a great season in Finland, where he was the top scorer in the league. Both were also members of the men’s national team. The decision they made back then either of them has never regretted and slowly but surely, they have made progress and continue to do so today. One of their main goals is to make it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“It is definitely more difficult to succeed in Beach Volleyball as you can only rely on yourself, there is no substitute. However, this road has been so great, despite some setbacks. Also finding sponsors and making your own business plan, it is a completely new world. But we both have grown so much during this journey as players and persons,” said Tiisaar.
“The first tournaments we thought we knew what we were doing but we really did not. Estonian legend Rivo Vesik told us back then that there was just a lot of running around not knowing what we were doing. These days we realise ourselves that we have improved and do things more calmly. We feel comfortable in this situation and most of all, we enjoy all of this,” added Nõlvak.
This summer they received a ticket to the EuroBeachVolley due to take place in early August in Moscow. “It is a great possibility to test yourself in a top level competition and we are waiting for this with excitement. We have never played there and as it is in Moscow, we hope we get some Estonian fans to support us there. We have a slogan in Estonia that Estonia is the land of Volleyball, so maybe we can also bring this to Beach Volleyball and together with the fans show in Moscow that we are the land of Beach Volleyball as well,” added Tiisaar.
Interesting fact: their birthdays are only a day apart. Mart was born on November 5, 1991, Kusti one day later. Their journey at #EuroBeachVolley will begin in a pool including Polish stars Bartosz Losiak/Piotr Kantor, Austria’s Martin Ermacora/Moritz Pristauz and Czech Republic’s rising duo David Schweiner/Ondrej Perusic.
