Team Azerbaijan hoping to improve on fourth place from home #EuroVolleyW
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women

Baku, Azerbaijan, July 17, 2019. Team Azerbaijan will contest the CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women after finishing fourth two years ago when they co-hosted the continental showpiece event together with Georgia. Azerbaijan’s performance at home in Baku equalled their best result in the competition – a fourth place they achieved in 2005 in Croatia.

Team captain Odina Aliyeva is looking forward to the event: “It is our ninth appearance in the Final Round of the European Championship,” she said. “As we prepare for this year’s EuroVolley, we will focus on playing friendly matches with strong opponents. Our coach will be following those matches very closely and come back to us with the right piece of info in order to improve the level of our performance. We finished fourth last time around in Baku. Our major goal is to improve the result that we achieved two years ago and I believe that we can do so. We have some great support from our fans back home and we want to make them happy with our results.”

Azerbaijan, now coached by Italian Giovanni Caprara, who helped Russia claim a World Championship title back in 2006, will begin their EuroVolley journey in Budapest, playing against hosts Hungary, and the national teams of Croatia, Estonia, Romania and the Netherlands.
