Russia’s Irina Fetisova doing well after appendicitis surgery
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women

Bratislava, Slovakia, August 26, 2019. On Sunday, August 25, Irina Fetisova suffered an appendicitis attack and Russia’s middle-blocker had to undergo immediate surgery at Bratislava’s University Hospital named after Ladislav Derer.

The surgery, performed by a local doctor and supervised by the Local Medical Delegate Pavol Sinka, was a success, as stated by Russia’s Team Manager, Andrey Erkhov. “I have spoken with Irina and she is doing well after the surgery. I am grateful to the local doctors and to the Organising Committee for all the support they provided in this difficult moment.”

After delivering a good performance in the match against Belarus on Day 1 of Pool D action in Bratislava, Fetisova was not able to join her team for Sunday’s successful match against Switzerland. “Obviously, Irina is a very strong player and we will miss her during this competition, but our team has a very strong mentality and we will manage to cope with her absence. Germany is a tough opponent, but we are really determined to do our best in this year’s EuroVolley,” Erkhov said.
