Volleyball mania continues with history-making EuroVolley 2019
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women

Luxembourg, September 2, 2019. The history-making CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women is reaching its most exciting stage after completion of the 8th Final matches played on Sunday across four countries and as many venues – Ankara, Lodz, Budapest and Bratislava. A record-breaking 30,730 fans attended the fixtures that determined the eventual quarterfinalists, whose quest for glory will resume on Wednesday in Ankara and Lodz.

As many as 8,750 fans followed the matchup featuring Poland and Spain at the iconic Atlas Arena in Lodz, thus accounting for the highest record of attendance across all of the 8th Finals. A large, passionate crowd of 8,130 people supported the ‘Sultans of the Net’ as Turkey fought hard to emerge victorious from a truly dramatic match with Croatia. Turkey’s team captain Eda Erdem Dündar openly acknowledged the role played by the crowd in her side’s successful efforts to stay in the competition.

The Volleyball party that started more than 10 days ago in Bratislava, Slovakia ended on a high note, as 6,430 fans witnessed the match between the home stars and vice-world champions Italy, thus accounting for an all-time record of attendance for a Volleyball match in the country – featuring men or women. Slovakia has been living a real Volleyball fever thanks to EuroVolley, with the ambiance at the Ondrej Nepela Ice Arena contributing to an experience that fans will never forget.

This is testament to the fact that EuroVolley is taking Volleyball to a completely different level. Countries such as Slovakia and Hungary, who have been hosting an event of this magnitude for the very first time, have been feeling not only the privilege and honour of doing so, but already see the lasting legacy that the organisation of such an event will have on the overall growth of the sport.

This cements the CEV’s vision and wish to take elite Volleyball to new markets and to provide opportunities for more countries to compete at the highest level. Slovenia, for instance, made it through the pool stage for the first time in their history, while Greece’s comeback to the EuroVolley stage since 2001 resulted in qualification for the 8th Finals and renewed, unprecedented media attention towards women’s Volleyball.

A number of leading media from countries such as Estonia, France, Finland and Switzerland have made the journey to EuroVolley to follow their respective national teams, thus helping spread the Volleyball fever across the whole of Europe.

You can be sure that with the top 8 teams now ready to fight for the crown, this Volleyball frenzy is only going to continue!
