Belarus secure top honours at EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour event in Yerevan
News from the Zonal Associations

Yerevan, Armenia, September 3, 2019. The EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour event hosted by the Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) at the Grand Sport complex in the country’s capital, Yerevan, ended on Tuesday with Aliaksandr Dziadkou and Pavel Piatrushka of Belarus claiming the gold medals.

The crowd grew with each competition day and with every match, and even people just passing by could not refrain from stopping and watching at least some rallies. On Monday, the programme included as many as 10 matches, with some producing exciting tiebreaks and all teams fighting until the very last rally in order to stay in the competition.

Tuesday, the third and last day of the tournament, featured the semis and medal matches. Dziadkou/Piatrushka claimed a very close semi-final match against Vadim Smorchkov/Anton Saraev of Russia to secure their spot in the final, where they would play reigning U22 European champions Pavel Shustrov and Alexey Gusev of Russia, winners of the other semi-final, a Russian derby with Anton Ermishenkov and Vasilii Ivanov.

Smorchkov/Saraev regrouped from the semi-final loss to secure a 2-1 victory over Ermishenkov and Ivanov in the bronze medal game, before Dziadkou/Piatrushka seized gold with a compelling 2-0 win (21-17, 21-16) against Shustrov/Gusev.

Hrachya Muradyan, President of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia, Hovhannes Gabrielyan, President of the Student Federation of the Republic of Armenia, and Darius Cerka, President of the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation, awarded the eventual medallists.

In his speech, Mr Muradyan noted that such tournaments greatly contribute to the development of Beach Volleyball in the Caucasus country and expressed his gratitude to the Armenian government for supporting the organisation of the event. The two main TV channels of the country showed several times clips from the event to raise the media exposure of the EEVZA competition to the next level.
