Ngapeth possibly to miss entire EuroVolley pool phase due to injury
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men

Montpellier, France, September 9, 2019. Superstar Earvin Ngapeth will miss the start of the EuroVolley 2019 – and he is due to sit out a minimum of three to maximum five matches at the tournament. On the other hand, Trévor Clevenot is again available to the staff of the Bleus.

Two days after feeling pain in the ribs during the warm-up before the friendly match with Germany held on Saturday in Paris (3-2), Earvin Ngapeth spent this Monday at a local hospital in Montpellier undergoing an ultrasound check and an MRI to learn more about the nature of his injury.

Ngapeth has suffered a muscle injury, which will force head coach Laurent Tillie to spare him for the start of the European Championship, since he should be unavailable from three up to five games.

Earvin should miss at least the Pool A matches against Romania (September 12), Greece (14) and Portugal (15). He could make his return either for the end of the group phase - the last two games between the Bleus against Bulgaria (16) and Italy (18) or for the 8th Finals in Nantes – should France qualify for that stage of the competition.

“I am not worried anymore after Saturday’s scare and these two days have been long – I am still working and mobilising my energy to be 100% fit when I get back to the team,” Ngapeth said.

Good news on the other hand for Trévor Clevenot, whose ultrasound control of the adductors (he had hurt himself during the match with Germany played behind closed doors last Friday) revealed no injury. The receiver / attacker will therefore resume training with the group for the first match of EuroVolley on Thursday.

Laurent Tillie took the decision Sunday to recall Thibault Rossard to have an additional receiver / attacker. He replaces among the 14 his cousin Nicolas Rossard who leaves the group on Tuesday morning.
