Slovenia ready for their first-ever home EuroVolley
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men

Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 9, 2019. Slovenia will soon be the host of a ‘senior’ CEV Volleyball European Championship for the first time in history. With only two days to go, Slovenia’s Volleyball heroes already feel the excitement, while sports fans from all around the country are determined to support their “silver boys” in Stožice Arena.

The organisers have sold more than 20,000 tickets for the Pool C clashes featuring Russia, Slovenia, Finland, Turkey, Belarus and North Macedonia, and the whole of Slovenia has started breathing with Volleyball in the last days before the championship. “I expect a real Volleyball spectacle in Ljubljana and I expect Slovenia will stand for their boys, who in the past 10 years or so never declined to play for their country, for their national team. These players deserve all this support. I am sure we will deliver a successful championship, we are ready,” the President of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia Metod Ropret said to a record number of journalists, gathered at the press conference held in Stožice Arena.

Slovenia’s setter Dejan Vinčić is confident that we will witness the so far best organised European Championship: “The Volleyball fever is rising, and we are already feeling it, as well as the positive vibrations. We never had the opportunity to face the best European teams in front of a home crowd. Our federation is doing a phenomenal work with the promotion of Volleyball and everything that is happening around us. I am sure we will host the best ever EuroVolley.”

Although Jan Kozamernik is one of the youngest Slovenian players, he was already a member of the generation that brought so much joy to Slovenia’s sports fans by winning the silver medal at the 2015 edition of the European Championship in Bulgaria and Italy. The 23-year-old middle blocker is now excited to be able to prove himself in the front of the home crowd: “It is so nice to see how much is happening in Slovenia ahead of EuroVolley. I am really looking forward to the beginning of the championship. We are aware that our first opponent, Belarus will already be a high obstacle on the way towards our goal, so we will need to remain focused and do our best. We know Slovenian fans will support us throughout the competition and we hope Stožice Arena will be full. It will for sure be a special feeling.”

Slovenia's head coach Alberto Giuliani is completely focused on Slovenia's first rivals, Belarus: “We are ready. The physical, technical, and mental preparation of my players is on a high level. We are now focused on the first match of the tournament against Belarus. First matches are always a little tricky and Belarus is now even stronger than it was at the FIVB Challenger Cup in July. We have to start the championship at 100%”.
