Five true Volleyball legends attend EuroVolley Men Finals in Paris
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men

Paris, France, September 30, 2019. While the top four teams in Europe fought for the continental crown at the iconic AccorHotels Arena in Paris, there was time to celebrate not only today’s stars of the game, but also those whose names have gone down in the history of the sport. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić had the pleasure to invite and host five true Volleyball legends in Paris – and their respective resumes speak for themselves and the leading role these men have played in Volleyball history.

The list of invitees includes three Olympic champions – Tomasz Wojtowicz (POL, 1976), Bas van de Goor (NED, 1996) and Andrija Geric (YUG/SRB, 2000) – and another two Olympic silver medal winners in Dimitar Zlatanov (BUL, 1980) and Lorenzo Bernardi (ITA, 1996). Wojtowicz and Bernardi are world champions as well, but if we were to mention all of the accolades and titles claimed by such legendary players, the list would be almost endless.

Even though they represented different eras, they share one common trait: they all made history with their performances and still stand out as role models to look up to for the younger generations. They all have their own special stories to tell – and even many years after retiring from competitive sport, their love and passion for the game has not changed or diminished at all.

The CEV leadership have brought players back to where they belong – they are those delivering the show, inspiring the next generations and embodying the key values that Volleyball stands for, such as teamwork, fair play, mutual respect, and friendship.

“We want the star players of the past as well as those of today to take the centre stage, because they are the best ambassadors we have to promote our sport,” the CEV President said. “I am absolutely delighted that we could host so many great players in Paris. They belong to our family and are key members of our team. We will continue to organise such actions to pay the right tribute to those who have grown our sport and inspire more to follow in their footsteps,” he concluded.
