#CLVolleyW ready to start with three women’s fixtures
CEV Champions League Volley 2020

Luxembourg, October 8, 2019. The much-anticipated CEV Champions League Volley 2020 gets underway this week with three fixtures scheduled for the 2nd Round of the women’s competition. Teams from Albania and Hungary make their historic debut while others return to contest Europe’s prime competition after a relatively short break. The real season opener comes on Tuesday in Montenegro where Luka BAR host Hungary’s champions Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST before on Wednesday, Mladost ZAGREB and rookies Partizani TIRANA take on opponents from Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina, respectively.

Mladost ZAGREB (CRO) vs. Khimik YUZHNY (UKR)

•    On Wednesday, the women’s Volleyball team of Mladost ZAGREB and their loyal home crowd will be welcoming the Ukrainian champions Khimik YUZHNY, in what will be one of the most important matches of the season.
•    This season, Mladost ZAGREB are trying to make it to the group stage of the Champions League with both their men’s and women’s teams. It is a tough task, but the management, players and staff are hoping to achieve this ambitious goal.

Saša Ivanišević, head coach of Mladost: “We have young players. We have been working hard in order to prepare for this match. We are aware that the opponents are very good and experienced, but I believe we can put up a good fight. I am expecting a good game from my team and hope for the best possible result.”

Iva Jurišić, team captain of Mladost: “We are working and training hard. We are looking forward to the match on Wednesday and hoping for a victory.”

Partizani TIRANA (ALB) vs. ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRČKO (BIH)

•    The women’s team of Partizani make their historic #CLVolleyW debut on home soil, playing the reigning national champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in an all-Balkan fixture.  
•    It is not just Partizani’s debut in the competition, but the maiden appearance for any Albanian team in the event.
•    The match takes place at the Feti Borova sports hall in the Albanian capital. It is going to be a difficult game for the ‘Reds’, whose aim is to make history for Albanian Volleyball.
•    Four foreign players have moved to Partizani the last two months: Romana Hudecova (Slovakia), Yeliz Basa (Turkey), Kaylee Manns (USA), and Benitha Mukandayisenga (Rwanda).
•    To better prepare for this challenge, Partizani played two friendly games in Korça against Aris THESSALONIKI of Greece, recording a loss and a victory. Moreover, Partizani just started their journey in the Albanian national league with a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Skënderbeu.

Partizani TIRANA are the first Albanian team in history to contest the CEV Champions League Volley

Rogert Huqi, President of Partizani: “We made some good transfers during this summer. Now the team is complete and ready for the new season. I wish this investment would bear its fruits in the national championship and in Europe as well.”

Smail Pezerovic, head coach of ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRČKO: “I hope that the long journey will not affect my players and that we will achieve a good result before the return match at home where we hope to secure our place in the next round.”

Luka BAR (MNE) vs. Vasas Röplabda Kft. BUDAPEST (HUN)

•    Montenegro’s Luka BAR make their second appearance in the CEV Champions League Volley. Back in 2017, they lost both at home and away to Estonia’s KOHILA VC in the first round of Europe’s prime competition.
•    Luka BAR have been the dominant force in Montenegrin women’s Volleyball for a number of years.
•    Vasas Röplabda Kft. BUDAPEST play their first historic Champions League match, after claiming top honours from the last edition of the Hungarian national championship.
