“Play Volleyball, grow with it” project gains momentum in North Macedonia
News from the National Federations

Skopje, North Macedonia, October 24, 2019. There is a saying that ‘the good voice is heard far away’. After the project ‘Play Volleyball, grow with it’ awakened the curiosity of more than a hundred pupils in Skopje at the end of the last school year, there was no doubt that many of their peers would accept the invitation to be part of another such event held in the Macedonian capital.

The image from the “Forza” sports centre was identical, with curious looks, wide smiles, pure and innocent joy of playing with the ball. Around fifty children from several elementary schools had the opportunity to familiarise with the basic Volleyball skills through this project run by the Volleyball Federation of North Macedonia in cooperation with the CEV.

“The base of every sport is made of the youngest athletes, and we are honoured to carry out this project. Following the successful performance of the Macedonian team at the recent CEV EuroVolley, the interest in Volleyball has increased and this is evident even through these mass-participation events,” said Sanja Nikcevic, who is responsible for running the project in North Macedonia. She says that the co-operation between elementary school teachers and coaches has been the basis of Macedonian Volleyball’s success in the past and that through this project this relationship can produce further results.

“The goal is clear and seemingly simple, to increase the number of children who will become familiar with Volleyball, love this particular sport and ultimately practice it professionally. It is still early to say much, but the first signals are a reason for optimism,” said Nikcevic.

It is always pleasant when children’s voices fill a gym, and it is even more pleasant when their faces are satisfied after the game is over. The impression was that in “Forza” sports hall everyone without exception felt like ‘a big fish’. Yes, maybe in a ‘small pond’, but who knows, maybe someday some of these kids will really be a ‘big fish’ and that ‘pond’ will become an ‘ocean’.
