Tel Aviv poised to host historic 1-Star World Tour event
2019 FIVB World Tour 1-Star - Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv, Israel, November 4, 2019. As of Wednesday, Israel will be hosting a historic, first ever FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event, which will be taking place at the iconic Frishman beach, one of the most popular spots in the cosmopolitan city of Tel Aviv, located just in the middle of the city’s beautiful promenade.

Israel’s top Beach Volleyball players, Sofia Starikov and Anita Dave (ranked 92 in the world), as well as Sean Faiga (former no. 45 in the FIVB ranking) and Netanel ‘Nati’ Amiram Ohana will take part in the tournament, which will be taking place at the same location where the Israeli Beach Volleyball national championship took place back in September.

The event will provide a € 10,000 total purse, with € 5,000 at stake per gender. The top ranked teams in the women’s competition will be Japan’s Kaho Sakaguchi/Reika Murakami and Alexandra Moiseeva and Ekaterina Syrtseva of Russia. Moiseeva is a former European champion (in 2006) and a 2008 Olympian. In the men’s tournament, Daniil Kuvichka and Anton Kislytsyn are the highest ranked team in the world due to compete in Tel Aviv.

Another interesting participant in this event is Serguei Prokopiev, who represented Russia at the London 2012 Olympics where he finished 9th with his former partner Konstantin Semenov. Prokopiev will be playing his first international tournament since 2015, alongside young talent Aleksandr Kramarenko.

Ohad Radco, who was the coach of the national under age teams and recently took over the reins of the Israeli ‘senior’ teams as well, discussed his expectations at Sunday’s press conference: “Although it is a 1-Star tournament, the games are going to be at a good level. The event will provide a very good exposure for this sport for anyone who will visit the venue and is not yet familiar with Beach Volleyball. It is definitely a tournament at the highest level that we have ever had here in Israel.”
