Israeli Volleyball family full of enthusiasm ahead of new season
News from the National Federations

Tel Aviv, Israel, November 4, 2019. The Israeli Volleyball Association (IVA) held a press conference on Sunday, marking the start of the top leagues in the country, as well as the first ever FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour tournament to take place in Israel, which begins on Wednesday in Tel Aviv.

IVA President Eviatar Dotan enjoyed this opportunity to introduce to the media Noam Katz, who, as announced some months ago, will be at the helm of the Israeli men’s national team in the future. Katz is the coach of reigning national champions Hapoel MATE-ASHER AKKO as well. “In the last few years we chose foreign professionals to lead our national teams, but we also knew that when we have the right Israeli coach for the job, we would transfer this responsibility to him. We chose Noam Katz after he managed to secure many titles, and we believe he can bring unity and vision to this post, and that he is the most suitable person for the achievement of our goals.”

“I am excited to take on the role of leading the Israeli national team to new achievements, especially on the international stage,” Katz said. “While I have ‘two hats’, since I am coaching a club and the national team as well, my love for Volleyball is unconditional. I will work hard to lead the team to future achievements and will try my best not to miss the opportunity I was given.”

Israel’s national team setter, Shon Moshe Kessel, who plays for Maccabi AOV ASHDOD, qualified with his new team last season to the top division of the national league. “The league is completely different from what I knew only two years ago. If before the smaller clubs saw the big clubs and just yielded, now we have a tough competition, every round has its surprises, and that is how it should be. As for the national team and qualification for the next edition of EuroVolley, I believe that now everyone is ready, in the right age, and qualifying for EuroVolley 2021 is definitely within our reach.”

As for the Beach Volleyball event in Tel Aviv, youngster Noga Maor, 18, who serves in the army and is currently the tallest soldier in the country (190 cm) said of the exciting upcoming event: “We have prepared for this for a very long time. It is going to be an impressive tournament, and I am hoping for good results.”
