Physical education teachers learn more about Kidsvolley in Faroe Islands to ease transfer of knowledge to their pupils
News from the National Federations

Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, November 9, 2019. The implementation of the CEV School Project in the Faroe Islands continues at full speed, with many exciting and new initiatives planned for the coming weeks and months. One of such actions is the delivery of courses designed specifically for physical education teachers working with pupils from grades 3 and 4. This week two such courses took place in Tórshavn with 24 participating teachers and another one in Gøta with 12 attendees.

“Although we visit the schools quite often and work with teachers and students, the most effective way to get Kidsvolley spread is by showing teachers how to use Kidsvolley in school,” says Project Manager Peter Morell. “School tournaments, with as many as 10 scheduled for the first week of December, are a good motivating factor for teachers to take part in such a course and to add Kidsvolley to their programme, so that they can prepare students in the best way for Kidsvolley school competitions. The fact that teachers receive balls from the CEV School Project, so that they actually have the materials they need to hold their classes, is another factor that makes them more motivated to work with Kidsvolley.”

Another thing that Morell is trying in the Faroe Islands is to see what a longer period spent with the same group of students means in terms of recruiting players for local Volleyball clubs. In the period leading up to Christmas, Morell will spend time with eight students from the fifth grade.

“For the last couple of years, we have been trying to make sure that a slightly longer period with Kidsvolley is available for both students and teachers to get a deeper knowledge and better skills in the game. We have now prioritised this side to the project and hope it will be a success,” says Magnus Tausen, Chairman of the Faroese Volleyball Federation.

In the coming period, some 300 students from the 5th grade will enjoy a Kidsvolley introduction of up to five modules in 90 minutes.
