Turkish Airlines ready to take off in Challenge Cup!
CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2020 - Women

Istanbul, Turkey, November 25, 2019. After claiming this year’s BVA Cup, THY ISTANBUL – the women’s Volleyball team sponsored by Turkish Airlines – have set the bar even higher as their ultimate goal is to win the 2020 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.

They started their campaign with a bang as they beat Hungary’s 1.MCM-Diamant KAPOSVARI 3-0 away and at home as well to make it comfortably to the 16th Finals.

“Turkish Airlines is a worldwide brand with high standards and we have defined our team’s goals according to these same standards,” says Ramazan Yıldırım, Secretary General of Turkish Airlines Sports Club. “Turkey’s flag carrier airline is the most valuable brand in Turkey. Therefore, as a team operating under the umbrella of a brand representing our country all over the world, our goals will always be high. I would like to thank the President of our club, who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines as well, Mr İlker Aycı for all of his support and vision.”

Mr Ramazan Yıldırım is the man at the helm of European Cups rookies THY ISTANBUL

“Obviously, we are glad that we won the BVA Cup, which helped us to secure participation in the CEV Challenge Cup 2020,” he continues. “The Balkan Cup has a special meaning for us, because it is the first international trophy in our club’s history. I have a strong belief in this team. I know that the upcoming games will be harder, but we will work more and more.”

The captain of the team Aneta Kocmanova Havlickova mentioned, “It is my third season with Turkish Airlines and this team is like a second home to me. I feel a lot of responsibility to this club. This year, we have an extremely strong team. I am also glad that we have such a warm atmosphere in the team. I think that it is crucial for success. The goals for this season have already been set and I am sure we will do our best to achieve them. It is the first time that Turkish Airlines Sports Club is playing in the European Cups. We want to go as far as possible. It is not any secret that our goal is to win the Challenge Cup; we are just in the beginning but we are ready to fight. I believe in this team.”

Şeyma Ercan (#5) is one of the star players of THY ISTANBUL

The vice-captain of the team Şeyma Ercan said, “This is my second year in the team. Last year, we achieved all the goals that had been set. This year our goals are even bigger and I am glad that we successfully fulfilled one of the goals that we set for this season by winning the BVA Cup 2019. Now, we are fully concentrated on winning the CEV Challenge Cup 2020. On the other hand, the Vestel Venus Sultans League is one of the strongest and most valuable leagues in the world. We must focus on both competitions and prepare ourselves accordingly. I trust my team a lot, because I see the good will and desire in everyone. The atmosphere in the team is great. Moreover, we all know that the team executives and staff members pay special attention to each one of us.”

The youngest player in the team at 21, libero Berin Yıldırım said, “Even though I am the youngest player in the team, I am also the oldest one! This is my fourth year here and each season has been incredible. The management, technical staff and athletes are all very professional. We are more than a team; we are a family. The facilities that our club offers are outstanding as well. I start every season more ambitious and willing to achieve more than we did in the previous one. When I see my development, my passion increases further and I become more eager to play. We are preparing for the next round with Ibsa CV CCO 7 PALMAS. We know the importance of all the games. Our team is ready and willing to do its best. Our goal is to bring home the trophy of the CEV Challenge Cup.”
