Aleksandar Boričić announces plans to run for another term as CEV President
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, December 18, 2019. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić announced on Wednesday plans to run for another term at the helm of Europe’s Volleyball family. Mr Boričić shared his intention to vie for the top job for another four years while addressing his colleagues of the Board of Administration, as the highest authorities in European Volleyball convened for their last plenary meeting of the year 2019 at the home of European Volleyball in Luxembourg. With his guidance, passion, commitment and vision, Mr Boričić has helped re-shape the image of Volleyball as well as improve the governance of the sport in Europe.

The members of the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA) – as well as a large number of other National Federations – have already expressed their full support to Mr Boričić’s plan to run for another four-year term.

Since the last elections held in October 2015, European Volleyball has undergone an unprecedented major transformational journey. “There has been a terrific change in the way we run our sport and our organisation, but also in the perception that our stakeholders have of European Volleyball,” the CEV President said. “I am especially proud of the changes I have seen in the mentality and approach of the people we work with – but also of the remarkable sense of unity and cohesion that reigns inside our Volleyball family.”

The milestones achieved by the CEV President and the current leadership include the re-shaping of EuroVolley and the CEV Champions League Volley, as well as intensive work done to promote the sport at the grassroots, while pursuing innovation at all levels, with an emphasis on engaging with the fans like never before through entertainment and the use of digital platforms. “We have been investing into both human and financial resources in order to grow the game, while rewarding players, clubs and National Federations for their hard work and help in raising the value of Volleyball and especially of our top events,” the CEV President said. “We have always been working as a team – and our achievements are just the reflection of this spirit.”

Under Mr Boričić’s tenure, the European Volleyball Confederation has further cemented its leading role on the international stage as well. “The FIVB has acknowledged our success and we stand as a role model for our continents,” he continued. “However, our journey and work for the good of Volleyball should not and cannot stop here. Even though we can be proud of these terrific achievements, I still feel like there is more work we can do to take Volleyball to the next level. With this in mind, I am happy to confirm my intention to serve our Volleyball family for another four years. The sky is the limit and together we can achieve even more.”

The election of the CEV President for the term 2020-2024 as well as of the members of all other institutional bodies – e.g. Board of Administration and Commissions – is due for next June 19 in Moscow, Russia in conjunction with the CEV General Assembly that will be taking place in the Russian capital.
