Tarvisio, Italy, to host Snow Volleyball European Tour stop in early March
CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2020

Tarvisio, Italy, December 20, 2020. The 2020 edition of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour will feature one additional stop from March 6 to 8 in the iconic Italian ski resort of Tarvisio. A Snow Volleyball competition will be taking place there for the first time in history – but the area is already famous among winter sports lovers, especially for hosting a number of women’s alpine skiing World Cup events as well as the 2003 edition of the Winter Universiade.

Tarvisio is a truly iconic location, with the background of snowy Alpine peaks and situated close to the Austrian and Slovenian border – a location that makes it a truly international place and destination. The addition of Tarvisio brings the number of events on the 2020 European Tour up to seven. The competition will feature 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams, with courts set up at the feet of Mount Lussari, while organisers are currently working on the provision of one extra court in Tarvisio downtown to raise the exposure of the event and popularity of Snow Volleyball even further.

Tarvisio will offer visitors 24 km of ski slopes and a real taste of Italian culture, including local food and wine, as well as exciting and fun side events – as it has become some sort of a tradition for the competitions hosted by Snow Volley Italia.

“We are happy with the development of Snow Volleyball. We so much wanted to develop this sport in Italy and we are extremely proud of the results we achieved with over 2,000 players having tried the game this far,” said Matteo Carlon, who leads Snow Volley Italia and the Organising Committee. “We are obviously very pleased with the opportunity to host a stop of the European Tour in Italy and to deliver it in such an amazing place such as Tarvisio, where the co-existence of different cultures has produced an interesting, unique melting pot.”

Snow Volley Italia has organised Snow Volleyball events since 2015, including the mass-participation one annually held in Prato Nevoso, where more than 350 players and 170 teams come together every year for three days of Snow Volleyball matches across 17 courts and big après-ski parties. Snow Volley Italia have delivered all stops of the Italian National Tour since 2017.

The Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) officially recognised Snow Volleyball in late 2018. Snow Volley Italia and FIPAV are eager to work together for the delivery of the European Tour stop in Tarvisio as well as for the further growth and development of Snow Volleyball in Italy. Local partners from Tarvisio and SmileEvents will support the event delivery as well.
