Maiden Snow Volleyball Winter Festival held in conjunction with Russian Cup
News from the National Federations

Lipetsk, Russia, January 10, 2020. The “Hillpark” ski complex in Lipetsk hosted earlier this week the 2020 edition of the Russian Snow Volleyball Cup. While the ‘pros’ were fighting for a ticket to the Snow Volleyball European Championship, many kids were having their own share of fun through a Snow Volleyball Winter Festival run under the umbrella of the CEV.

Alexander Ryabchenko, Deputy Head of the Lipetsk Region Administration, opened the event, emphasising that such festivals are very important experiences for the younger generation, and that the administration of the Lipetsk Region pays great attention to the development of youth sports. Moreover, such festivals help take children closer to professional athletes and promote a healthy lifestyle.

As many as 120 children divided into three age groups (U11, U13 and U17) attended the festival, the first activity of this kind organised under the banner of the European Volleyball Confederation, as the CEV are working closely with National Federations in order to grow participation in Snow Volleyball.

The organisers prepared a special, very extensive programme for the kids. First, the pupils tried their hand at a Snow Volleyball tournament played across three courts, measured the height of their jump through a special attraction and fought in an impromptu match with a giant ball on the centre court, doing so between the final games during the live broadcast.

The Organising Committee provided all participants of the festival with t-shirts in the same style as those designed for the participants of the Russian Cup. The winners of the tournament received souvenirs displaying the symbols of the local Volleyball club.

All participants could attend the final matches of the Russian Snow Volleyball Cup as well. Russia have become a major force to reckon with in Snow Volleyball – with Russian teams making their mark on the European Tour and Ruslan Daianov/Taras Myskiv claiming the men’s #EuroSnowVolley title at the inaugural event held in 2018 in Wagrain-Kleinarl, Austria.
