CEV pays € 2.6 million prize money to soften economic impact of coronavirus on clubs
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, April 2, 2020. Acknowledging the profound economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic and its far-reaching consequences on the activities of its stakeholders, the CEV leadership has decided to proceed immediately with the payment of the prize money due for all matches played until the postponement of all competitions announced in mid-March due to the outbreak of the novel virus. This accounts for overall € 2.6 million as of today, based on the decision taken by the CEV Board of Administration at their meeting held in December 2019.
“We sincerely hope that the quick and timely provision of this money will contribute to the efforts made by our clubs to manage this unprecedented crisis,” says CEV President Aleksandar Boričić. “I wish to stress and reassure that the CEV will continue to work with positive energy together with all stakeholders in finding amicable and reasonable solutions in order to overcome this crisis as one team. This action shows our wish and commitment to help soften, as much as possible, the impact of this crisis on our stakeholders.”

“At this stage, we continue to monitor the development of the pandemic across Europe and the world before taking any further decision on the remainder of the 2020 European Cups season. At the same time, I am especially proud and happy that the response we have been getting from all sides shows a strong sense of togetherness. All members of the Volleyball family wish to join forces and to act in unity and solidarity, in order to contribute to the global efforts made to curb the spread of the novel virus,” the CEV President continues.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all members of our Volleyball family for keeping their positive energy and for the continuous exchange of information and regular communication flow with the CEV. As we go through such difficult times, it is crucial to maintain and strengthen these communication channels and to exchange information in order to develop a common understanding and finding mutual solutions. I wish all members of our Volleyball family much courage and hope you and your loved ones can all stay strong and safe!” he concludes.
