CEV releases information update on July World Tour events
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, May 8, 2020. In an effort to re-start activities once it is safe for everyone to do so, the CEV continues to work closely with all relevant stakeholders, such as National Federations, clubs and promoters, while closely following the evolution of the pandemic in Europe as well as the measures taken by national authorities to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. In line with the decisions taken by the CEV Board of Administration on April 23, the CEV remains hopeful to be able to deliver a number of competitions later this summer and this applies to 1-Star and 2-Star Beach Volleyball World Tour events run by the European Volleyball Confederation.

The organisers of the inaugural 2-Star event in Klaipeda, Lithuania, initially due to take place from July 2 to 5, have announced plans to postpone this tournament to August 27-30, with further updates to follow in early June. The women’s only event in Klaipeda would be the first World Tour tournament in history held in Lithuania, where Beach Volleyball has experienced a steady growth in the last ten years.

Another 2-Star women’s only event was due to take place from July 10-12 in Larnaka, Cyprus. The organisers are currently holding talks with national and local authorities to postpone, if conditions allow, the event to the month of September, thus taking advantage of the long summer available in the Mediterranean island.

Speaking of historic milestones, the World Tour was due to stop this summer for the first time in Ireland, with a 1-Star men’s only tournament in Bettystown, the very same place which played host last year to a Continental Cup event. Volleyball Ireland and the local organisers are currently assessing the situation on the ground and have expressed the wish to postpone the tournament originally due to run from July 17 to 19 to a later date.

Further updates will follow in due time as the CEV continue to liaise with all stakeholders, while showing flexibility and at the same time respecting the one-month notice set by the Board of Administration for the eventual cancellation of World Tour events scheduled for the summer of 2020.
