News from the National Federations

Dublin, Ireland, May 16, 2020. Volleyball Ireland are delighted to announce an innovative partnership with global superstar Vladimir ‘Vanja’ Grbic. The inspirational Olympic gold medallist will deliver a four-week webinar programme that focusses on player development with key information, guidance and advice suitable for teachers, coaches and parents.

Each session will include a 45-minute presentation followed by a Q&A opportunity. Registration is imperative with limited places available. Register here.

Commenting on the programme Volleyball Ireland President Grainne Culliton said, “We are really ecstatic that our great friend Vanja is ‘returning’ to Ireland to help inspire our coaches, teachers and players alike. As well as a phenomenal player, Vanja is a highly inspiring coach with extensive experience in developing skills in a fun and enjoyable way that keeps children in Volleyball for life. We cannot urge you enough to take part in the programme and learn from his holistic player-centred approach.”

Each event will explore motivation, dealing with fear, handling failure, and maturation of children and the key differences between boys and girls at each age group. Each session will include a 45-minute presentation and an opportunity for participants to ask their own questions related to the theme that week.

The first session that begins on Monday, May 18, will provide an overview of the stages of long- term player development, before digging into activities and principles for coaching young children.

The programme is designed for coaches, teachers, parents and players - to help everyone best understand how players acquire skills and are motivated to enjoy a long-term, happy and active lifestyle. More information on the initiative is available here.

As part of Volleyball Ireland’s commitment to upskilling coaches, teachers, players and clubs, there is no charge for participation. The aim of the project is to help inspire a lifelong love of our wonderful sport.
