CEV and AVC resume joint project to educate young, talented coaches
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, May 27, 2020. Late last year, the CEV announced the start of a cross-continental project designed to improve the cooperation with colleagues from the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) in order to educate young coaches and facilitate the exchange and transfer of knowledge. After a first meeting held at the CEV headquarters in late February, activities have now resumed, despite the coronavirus pandemic, through a conference call attended by representatives of the CEV and AVC Development Departments and members of the respective Coaches Commissions.

The CEV has chosen renowned Belgian Volleyball coach Gert Vande Broek, who is a member of the European Coaches Commission (ECOC) as well, as their expert in charge of leading and conducting a training programme specifically addressed to young and talented coaches. The AVC will announce the name of their own expert by the end of June 2020.

As agreed, the two Confederations will be interviewing candidates and each will shortlist eight candidates / coaches by mid-September 2020 before the two experts narrow the group down to eight candidates in total. These will follow a programme offering a complete package of multidisciplinary activities. The experts will announce the names of the eight candidates / coaches retained to join the programme by October 15, 2020. If the COVID-19 pandemic does not interfere, the programme will be running in 2021 with a series of on-site activities.

The CEV and AVC expect and invite all of their national federations to contribute in the selection process by submitting their top candidate (1 coach). While choosing the eight coaches due to join the programme, the CEV and AVC experts will follow the gender equality guidelines agreed upon, meaning that there must be minimum two representatives from the gender in minority.

The candidates should fulfil the following criteria / profile:

•    Volleyball coaches working with underage categories
•    Must have a proficient level of speaking and writing English
•    Age and experience are not exclusive, yet desirable not over 35
•    Players at the end of their career with a willingness to develop a professional coaching career
•    Prepare and submit a motivational letter
•    Provide an endorsement letter from a prominent coach or organisation
•    Full commitment to follow a two-week programme, one week in Europe and one in Asia
•    Must be present at the Coaches Convention organised in late 2021 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.
