Austria to host first ever Snow Volleyball European Championships
News from the CEV

Krakow, Poland, September 1, 2017. After the successful delivery of the 2016 and 2017 editions of the European Tour, time has come for the inaugural CEV Snow Volleyball European Championships, which will be taking place from March 22-25, 2018 in Wagrain-Kleinarl and Flachau, Austria. The competition will feature 16 teams per gender and crown the first ever Snow Volleyball European champions.

CEV President Aleksandar Boričić made this historic announcement on Friday in Krakow, while addressing the delegates attending the XXXVIII CEV General Assembly. The inaugural Snow Volleyball European Championships will take place in Wagrain-Kleinarl and Flachau, where the sport was actually born some ten years ago. The Austrian ski resorts have a wealth of experience in hosting Snow Volleyball competitions – and this is where the first Snow Volleyball European Tour stopped in 2016 before a highly successful invitational tournament took place there in March 2017.

The Austrian Volleyball Federation (OeVV) and promoter Chaka2 GmbH will co-host the inaugural Snow Volleyball European Championships – where 10,000 € prize money per gender will be at stake with the final matches taking place before an audience of some 600 people up in the Austrian mountains.

The establishment of a fully recognised European Championship will mark another milestone in the steady development of Snow Volleyball – as the game on snow has been rapidly growing internationally and at national level as well with many hoping that one day it will feature on the programme of the Winter Olympics.
