Everything is set in Cardiff for historic SCA Beach Volleyball event

Friday was the busiest day yet at the SCA U17 Beach Volleyball Championships in Cardiff, with the Faroe Islands, Ireland and Andorra training in the morning during the hottest part of the day. With a lunch break as an incentive, the teams were determined to train hard and strong in preparation for this weekend’s tournament. In the evening the photographers arrived to take all players’ pictures and input them into the streaming system for presentation during the tournament. Throughout the day, camera rigging was set up, logos of involved organisations and establishments were set up and teams had their photoshoots with media posts made displayed on the @cardiffbeachvolleyball Instagram page. Teams have been fully registered and are ready to play and the event which also counts as a qualifier for next year’s #EuroBeachVolleyU18 is officially underway. 

Players have made sure to get some well-needed rest after a busy day training. The opening match will be streamed on the Cardiff Beach Volleyball Club YouTube Channel. Media coverage included pictures taken of training, teams, individuals, and coaches, thus creating a really exciting atmosphere for players and staff alike who are all ready to start the event with the opening match at 9am on Saturday, August 1. Preparations are complete for the initial stages of the streams. Camera rigging was finished to cover Centre Court and Court 2. On Saturday, the camera and media team will set up the remaining cameras to cover Court 3, net cameras, the pre/post-match interview room and beauty shot cameras. 

None of this would be possible without the key volunteers. One such is the significant other of Carl Harwood, Riina Lehtonen-Harwood, who has been present the entire time providing dedication and hospitality to players, coaches, staff and volunteers alike. Other volunteers such as line judges, scorers, ball handlers, rakers have all been organised and set in place ready for Beach Volleyball Wales’s international tournament debut.

The event has proven to be professional and is sure to put Wales on the map for youth Beach Volleyball competitions. The atmosphere, vibe, attitude toward sport, sportsmanship, excitement and chemistry among all involved members is a joy to be a part of.
