Last year, Baden did host an event scheduled for the 2nd Round of the Olympic-qualifying CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup. A year earlier, in 2020, Robin Seidl and Philipp Waller claimed gold at the World Tour Baden Open. The Austrian duo, representing the Baden Beach Volleyball Club, finished ninth in the World Championships held in Rome earlier this year – where they lost to eventual world champions Anders Mol/Christian Sørum from Norway. Seidl and Waller finished in fifth place at the Beach Pro Tour Challenge in Doha, but they are yet to claim an international medal this season.
The newly formed duo Julian Hörl and Alexander Horst have been enjoying a fabulous campaign this year, finishing fifth at the Pro Tour Elite event recently held in Gstaad a few weeks after securing gold at the Futures run in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Horst won the Baden event in 2018 and 2019 together with former partner Clemens Doppler.
Martin Ermacora and Moritz Pristauz have already won two medals this year with bronze in Doha and silver in Espinho – where they recently lost to Poland’s elite duo Michal Bryl/Bartosz Losiak.
Austrian sisters Dorina and Ronja Klinger celebrated their first international triumph earlier this year in Ios, Greece, where they emerged victorious without dropping a single set. Their resume includes another four top 10 finishes. Katharina Schützenhöfer and Lena Plesiutschnig, on the other hand, are still waiting for their first elusive Pro Tour medal. In 2019, they won gold in Baden.
Beach Volleyball competition has been taking place uninterruptedly in Baden since 2005.
