Players and fans will all equally enjoy the unique atmosphere at the iconic stadium in Utrecht

Organiser and King of the Court inventor Sportworx from Utrecht has joined forces with the CEV and the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo) to create and deliver the first edition of the CEV Queen & King of the Court European Finals.

With thirty teams per gender, the European Finals are the biggest tournament organised under this format to date. Fifteen teams will have their spot in the group stage, while another fifteen will fight for the five remaining places in the Main Draw through a two-phase qualification round. From the quarterfinals on, every match will be contested in the evening, thus creating the well-known King of the Court atmosphere in the Sportworx skybox stadium. Lights will be on, music will be loud, and the party in the Temple of Beach will be epic!

At the press conference held on Monday in Utrecht, Wilco Nijland (Sportworx CEO) expressed his joy for the collaboration established by Sportworx and the CEV in the King of the Court format:

“We organised the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final together last year and building on the success of that endeavour, we joined forces again. We welcome the support of the CEV, as they are the sport’s governing body in Europe. The development of this concept, from a training exercise, through national championships, to continental finals recognised by CEV is impressive. Together we can expand this concept even further.”

Michel Everaert, director at the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo), added that the European Finals are an essential step in the development of King of the Court, but of Beach Volleyball as a sport too:

“Together with the European Championships, the new BeachVolley Nations Cup in Vienna, and Queen & King of the Court European Finals, the 2022 Beach Volleyball season will feature an unprecedented three major highlights.”
