Greece, Turkey and the Netherlands to host age-group European Championships in 2022

Greece, Turkey and the Netherlands will be hosting the rising stars of European Beach Volleyball next year – as the CEV Board of Administration confirmed earlier this month these three countries as the hosts of the U18, U20 and U22 continental championships scheduled for the summer of 2022.

The very first such event, if we are to go chronologically, will be #EuroBeachVolleyU22. The Netherlands were due to host this competition in 2020 already, but the top U22 players from across Europe eventually played for continental honours in Turkey as COVID-19 restrictions prevented the Dutch Volleyball Federation and the local organisers from staging the tournament. The event will continue the tradition of successful Beach Volleyball competitions held in the Netherlands – with a concept that is unique for an age-group event, as matches will be taking place in two cities, Vlissingen and Werkendam, from June 7 to 12, 2022. The Netherlands previously hosted this age-group competition in 2012 in the city of Assen – the last time it was open to players up to the age of 23.

A Beach Volleyball age-group European championship will be taking place in Izmir for the third straight year. After the Turkish seaside city delivered both the U18 and U22 tournaments in 2020 and #EuroBeachVolleyU20 in July 2021, the iconic Selcuk Pamucak Beach will be hosting the top U20 players in Europe in 2022. The tournament at the venue located right by the Aegean Sea will run from July 14 to 17, 2022.

Greece will return to host a Beach Volleyball competition of continental calibre for the first time since 2016 – when the U22 tournament took place in Thessaloniki. The 2022 edition of #EuroBeachVolleyU18 will run from September 1 to 4, 2022 at the Multi Sport Complex in Loutraki. The very same city played host to the same age-group championship back in 2008 – when teams from Ukraine and Russia claimed men’s and women’s gold, respectively.

As we already look forward to another exciting summer season, we can be confident that these three events will provide us with an opportunity to get to know the rising stars of the sport who will help consolidate Europe’s leading role on the global stage!
