Teams from Italy enjoyed a glorious day as Main Draw competition got underway at the Beach Pro Tour Futures event in Cirò Marina.

Only Erika Ditta/Eleonora Sestini failed to reach the single elimination phase after two tough matches against Australia’s Alisha Steven/Georgia Johnson and Vanuatu’s Miller Elwin/Sherysyn Toko. The players from Vanuatu, gold medal winners from last week’s event in Lecce, Italy, eventually had to forfeit their next match with England due to injury – but they are hoping to recover in time for their next fixture against Cecilia Peralta and Maia Najul Rosas of Argentina.

Home stars Valentina Calì/Margherita Tega of Italy are now due to play Australians Brittany Kendall and Jasmine Fleming, while Anna Pelloia/Reka Orsi Toth have reached the quarterfinals already, where they will be playing the winners of the matchup between Israel’s Anita Dave/Yahli Ashush and Italians Giulia Rubini/Giada Godenzoni.

Italian home favourites and men’s top seeds Davide Benzi/Carlo Bonifazi will resume their campaign early on Saturday morning playing against the youngest of the Mol brothers from Norway, Markus, and his partner Nils Gunnar Ringøen. With the tournament approaching its most exciting stage, the organisers expect a large crowd for the weekend.
