European teams continue to dominate the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures events held on the continent in 2025, as this weekend, in Madrid, they got the sixth podium sweep in as many tournaments since the start of the season.
The women-only tournament held at the Parque Deportivo Puerta de Hierro had duos from Germany, France and Slovenia on the podium on Sunday, highlighting another weekend of success for teams from the continent at the international level.
Stepping at the top of the podium were Germans Janne Uhl and Paula Schürholz, who got to celebrate their first international victory as partners – they have been together since 2023 and won silver and bronze medals in Futures events in the period.
In order to win gold in Madrid, the Germans showed nerves of steel to overcome French Alex Merle and Anouk Dupin in Sunday’s gold medal match, winning 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 20-18).
Slovenians Tjasa Kotnik and Maja Marolt finished third, making in to the podium in their first international event as partners after Spanish Olympians Daniela Álvarez and Tania Moreno forfeited the bronze medal match – they had also missed the semifinals, due to an injury.
The next country to welcome a Beach Pro Tour Futures event in Europe will be Switzerland, which will have men and women competing in Spiez next week, from Thursday to Sunday.
