Bogdanka LUK Lublin and KS Developres Rzeszów claim the first trophies of the season in Poland
News
The new club season in Poland may have started earlier this month, but the first trophies of the campaign was already at stake last weekend. In Częstochowa, the country’s women’s and men’s volleyball powerhouses faced their respective domestic rivals in the Polish SuperCup, with KS Developres Rzeszów and Bogdanka LUK Lublin successfully defending their titles to lift the trophies for the second consecutive year.
With both women's and men's TauronLiga clubs strengthening their rosters ahead of the 2026/2027 season, Poland has welcomed another wave of international stars while also seeing some of its leading domestic players return to familiar surroundings. The renewed squads promise another exciting season of domestic rivalry, with the country’s leading teams also setting their sights on success in European competitions. The AL-KO Polish SuperCup in Częstochowa provided the first opportunity to see these revamped line-ups in action.
Developres take revenge to retain the women’s SuperCup
Saturday evening saw reigning Polish champions PGE Budowlani Łódź take on last season’s runners-up, KS Developres Rzeszów, in a highly anticipated clash between two teams preparing to represent Poland in the CEV Champions League Volley 2027. With several changes to both rosters, including players switching sides between the two clubs, the encounter promised plenty of intrigue.
This time, however, it was Developres who had the last word. Led by head coach Jelena Blagojević, the Rzeszów side secured a convincing 3-0 victory (25-19, 29-27, 25-18), taking revenge for their dramatic defeat in the Polish championship final, which had gone all the way to a decisive fifth match at the end of last season.
With Alicja Grabka, formerly of Budowlani, now taking charge of playmaking, and Katarzyna Wenerska having moved in the opposite direction, DevelopRes made the most of their attacking options. Julita Piasecka and Marrit Jasper led the scoring with 17 and 16 points, respectively, but it was middle blocker Weronika Centka-Tietianiec who stole the spotlight. The 26-year-old, who re-joined Developres from Budowlani, delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 12 points, including three blocks and nine successful attacks at a 56% success rate, to earn the well-deserved MVP award.
For Developres, the victory marked their fourth Polish SuperCup triumph in four appearances in the competition - an impressive record that underlines their ability to deliver when trophy is at stake.
Weronika Centka-Tietianiec“From the beginning of the training week, we kept telling ourselves that we were going to Częstochowa to win the SuperCup, overpower our opponents and show our strength. I’m happy that we played good volleyball, and we could have even raised our level if needed. Throughout the match, we remained consistent and performed well against a strong team like Budowlani. We stayed focused and, even when we encountered a few difficulties, we overcame them quickly and maintained our pace. We are therefore very happy to have won this trophy.”

Bogdanka LUK Lublin overcome Zawiercie in men’s final
The excitement continued on Sunday, when 7,100 spectators packed Arena Częstochowa for a heavyweight encounter between reigning Polish champions and CLVolleyM runners-up Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and Polish Cup winners Bogdanka LUK Lublin.
Zawiercie entered the match with an impressive roster, featuring new arrivals Tomasz Fornal, Jakub Kochanowski and Kamil Rychlicki. However, even their strengthened line-up could not stop a Lublin side powered by Wilfredo Leon and Japanese international Ran Takahashi, another major addition ahead of the new season.
Following a thrilling opening set that required extra time to decide the winner, Bogdanka LUK Lublin took control of the encounter and went on to secure a straight-set victory, 3-0 (34-32, 25-20, 25-18), to successfully defend their SuperCup title.
Leon finished as Lublin’s leading scorer with 16 points, while Takahashi and Mateusz Malinowski contributed 15 points apiece. Yet the MVP honours went to the man orchestrating the team’s impressive performance: setter Marcin Komenda, whose outstanding distribution helped Lublin make the most of their attacking firepower.
The triumph secured a second consecutive Polish SuperCup for Bogdanka LUK Lublin, providing the perfect start to a season in which the club will once again aim to challenge on both the domestic and European stages.
Marcin Komenda“The first set was extremely important, and I think it had a major impact on the course of the match. It was a battle between two strong teams, and I’m sure we will face each other several more times this season, with every match bringing a new story. It was a good game and a great start to the season. We hope to maintain this level as the season progresses.”
