Budva BUDVA and OK HERCEG NOVI claim inaugural Montenegro’s Super Cup titles

For the first time in the history of Montenegrin Volleyball, a Super Cup was organised by the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG) with men’s and women’s titles at stake. On Sunday, at the Sports Centre in Nikšić, the event run by the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, the Municipality of Nikšić, and the Sutjeska Volleyball Club ended with Budva BUDVA and OK HERCEG NOVI securing the men’s and women’s crowns. Before the Supercup matches, Sutjeska and Budućnost played a memorial game in honour of Miodrag Skala Gvozdenović, a Montenegrin, Yugoslav, and European Volleyball legend.

Budva BUDVA were crowned winners of the inaugural men's Super Cup of Montenegro

Budva BUDVA claimed the men’s Montenegrin Super Cup for 2024, after defeating Jedinstvo 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-19). The MVP of the Super Cup was setter Rastko Milenković from Budva, and the award was presented to him by Ivan Ječmenica, the director of the men’s national teams at the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro. The Super Cup trophy was handed over to the Budva team by OSCG President Nikola Kažić. The gold medals for the Budva team were presented by Nemanja Vuković, President of the Municipal Assembly of Nikšić, and Ivan Bošković, OSCG Secretary General. The plaque for the runner-up team, Jedinstvo, was presented by Ivan Ječmenica. The silver medals for the Jedinstvo team were handed out by Ječmenica as well together with Miloš Ranitović, Secretary General of the Paralympic Committee of Montenegro. The competition commissioner of OSCG, Nikola Pješčić, awarded medals to the supervisor, Anka Ivanović, and the referees of the match, Dragana Vučinić and Nevena Terzić.

OK HERCEG NOVI cemented their domestic supremacy with a Super Cup title

The women’s team of OK HERCEG NOVI won the inaugural Montenegrin Super Cup and thereby secured their first trophy of the season, after defeating Luka BAR in straight sets (27-25, 25-17, 25-14). The MVP of the Super Cup was Kristina Guncheva, the Bulgarian setter of OK HERCEG NOVI, and the award was presented to her by Ksenija Božović, a member of the OSCG Board of Directors and the director of women’s national teams. The Super Cup trophy was presented to the winners by Nikola Kažić, President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro. The gold medals for the players of OK HERCEG NOVI were awarded by Ksenija Božović and Nevena Terzić, both members of the OSCG Board of Directors. The plaque for the runner-up team, Luka BAR, was presented by Petar Vukčević, a member of the OSCG Board of Directors. The silver medals for the Luka BAR team were handed out by Petar Vukčević and Ivan Bošković, OSCG Secretary General. Competition commissioner Nikola Pješčić awarded medals to the supervisor Anka Ivanović and the referees of the women’s Super Cup game, Slobodan Kovačević and Jelena Mitrović.

Budućnost Volley won the matchup organised to pay tribute to Montenegro's Volleyball legend Miodrag Skala Gvozdenović

Earlier in the day, the players of Budućnost Volley defeated Sutjeska with a score of 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-14) in a memorial match paying tribute to the legend of Nikšić, Montenegrin, and Yugoslav Volleyball, Miodrag Skala Gvozdenović. Before the start of the match, Đorđije Kustudić spoke on behalf of Miodrag Skala Gvozdenović’s family. A commemorative plaque was presented to Sutjeska’s captain Marko Ivanišević by Miloš Mrvaljević, a friend of the late Miodrag Skala Gvozdenović. Another plaque was presented to Budućnost's captain Miodrag Jelić by Đorđije Kustudić on behalf of the Gvozdenović family.
