The CEV Cup Women was back in action this week, with the quarterfinals phase being dominated by the hosts teams in three out of the four matches.
Igor Gorgonzola Novara, one of the favourites in the race to this years's title, winner of the CEV Champions League in 2019 and of the CEV Challenge Cup last season, looked strong against Maritza Plovdiv, a team coming from the Champions League group phase. A straight sets win in which Tatiana Tolok scored 23 points, eight more than her teammate Taylor Mims (15 pts) and ten more than Plovdiv's top scorer, Borislava Saykova (13 pts).
In the second matchup of the day, Romania's former Champions League Finalist from 2018, CS Volei Alba Blaj managed a huge win away from home in Porto, against a team that showed good form during their European season. The Romanians will now be confident that they can seal the deal on home court and take their place in the top four of the competition.
The remaining two matches of the round saw the other two teams coming from the Champions League, BKS Bostik ZGO Bliesko-Biała and Vasas Óbuda Budapest claim important victories but not looking untouchable. Their opponents, THY Istanbul and Moya Radomka Radon will be encouraged by having won a set away from home to push more in the return leg.
The return leg of the quarterfinals is scheduled to take place in less than two weeks!
