The new season in #CLVolleyM is about the start for the elite men’s club on the continent, and this weekend, they will take the court for their last domestic challenges before the first clashes of the group stage in the most prestigious tournament in Europe. Being aware of this, the Polish and Turkish powerholders will surely aim to perform at their highest levels. In the case of BR Volleys and Lüneburg in Germany, Roeselare in Belgium, and Piacenza in Italy, this weekend will be more important in terms of reaching their national goals.
The quarterfinal clashes of the German DVV Cup will take place this weekend. The two CEV Champions League Volley participants from the country, Berlin Recycling Volleys, and SVG Lüneburg, will face Gotha and Bitterfeld, respectively.
The last champion, BR Volleys passed VfB Friedrichshafen in the previous round after a thrilling five-setter. This time, the expectation is a clear victory and securing a spot in the semifinals to maintain the title. The Lüneburg side will hold their first #CLVolleyM match against Jihostroj Ceske Budejovice next week. Even though they will entirely focus on this fight, the first aim is to beat Bitterfeld to book their spots in the next round of the national cup.
The gold medalist of the last three seasons in Belgium, Knack Roeselare, started the domestic league quite well. They have won four of five games so far and currently stand at the top of the charts. After beating the other #CLVolleyM squad, VC Greenyard Maaseik last week, they will now face a new difficult challenge. Roeselare will meet Haasrode Leuven in the fifth leg of the Belgian EuroMillions League. Their opponent, Leuven, has been showing quite an impressive performance since the beginning of the season. They currently have a perfect record of 4-0 and are the only undefeated team. Thus, the result of this match will also determine who will complete the weekend as the leader in Belgium.
The same case holds for Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza in Italy as well. They will host last year’s semifinalists Halkbank Ankara in their debut in Group C of the #CLVolleyM next week, but they have another focus first: They will visit Sir Safety Perugia in the sixth week of the Italian Superlega. Both teams have only one defeat, with Perugia in second position with one more point than Piacenza.
The reigning titleholder, Itas Trentino, is the current leader with five victories in five matches; thus, it is very crucial for both Piacenza and Perugia to stay in the vice leader position and continue chasing the leader. Piacenza will also push their limits to see how powerful they are and what can be improved in their game to get prepared for their first continental clash.
The new season is on the way in the CEV Champions League Volley Men with the first clashes of the group phase. While all teams have already been waiting to start facing their rivals, they will also try to finish the weekend well in the domestic tournaments. The aim for BR Volleys and Lüneburg is to advance to the next round of the national cup. Roeselare and Piacenza, on the other hand, will try to overpower their strong opponents in their clashes to secure their top positions in their countries. We will see what kind of results await us in the last matches of the elite teams before their opening clashes in #CLVolleyM.
